What it is

Good study takes time: reading a passage in context, tracing its themes, weighing key words, following cross-references, and turning all of it into something teachable. Explain Scripture does the first pass of that spadework for you so you can spend your time on prayer, judgment, and delivery — the parts no tool should replace.

It is built for the people who open the Bible in front of others:

How a study is made

When you enter a reference, we assemble a structured study organized into seven parts, so the output is consistent and easy to teach from rather than an unstructured wall of text:

• Big Idea — the passage’s central point in one sentence
• Simple Summary — a plain-language overview
• Context — the historical and literary setting
• Key Phrases — notable words and original-language insight
• Themes — the threads that run through the passage
• Cross-References — related passages elsewhere in Scripture
• Teaching Ideas — angles for a sermon, lesson, or discussion

The studies are generated by a large language modelworking from your reference and the passage text. We’re transparent about that because it matters for how you should use the result: treat it as a well-read study partner’s first draft, not as a commentary written by a named scholar.

How we handle accuracy

AI-generated study notes are genuinely useful, and they can also be wrong — a date, an attribution, or a shade of meaning. We build with that reality in mind and ask you to as well:

• Every study is a starting point for your own study, not a final authority.
• Weigh what you read against the biblical text itself, trusted commentaries, and your own theological judgment before you teach it.
• We keep the structure tight and the claims modest, and we surface original-language notes so you can check them rather than take them on faith.

To put it plainly, and the way it appears throughout the app: a study assistant — not a replacement for Scripture, prayer, pastors, or theological judgment.

Our posture

Explain Scripture aims to serve the text, not to push a single tradition. The goal is to help you see what is actually in a passage — its context, its language, its connections — and to leave interpretation and application to you and your community. Where faithful Christians read a passage differently, a tool should inform that conversation, not end it.

Privacy and your work
