Privacy Policy

Explain Scripture (“Explain Scripture,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) provides an online tool that generates structured study notes for Bible passages. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By using the Service you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information we collect

• Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address and a password. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and stored in hashed form; we never see your plaintext password.
• Study content. The passage references you enter, any passage text or notes you paste, and the study reports we generate for you. This content is saved to your account so you can return to it.
• Usage records. Counts of studies generated and saved, your current plan, and similar records we use to apply plan limits and prevent abuse.
• Payment information. If you subscribe to a paid plan, payments are processed by Stripe. Stripe collects and processes your card details directly; we do not receive or store full card numbers. We store a customer or subscription identifier and your plan status.
• Technical data. Your approximate IP address and standard request metadata, used for security, abuse prevention, and rate limiting (including limiting free public previews).

2. How we use your information

• Provide, operate, maintain, and improve the Service, including generating and saving studies.
• Authenticate you and keep your account secure.
• Apply plan limits and detect or prevent abuse and fraud.
• Process payments and manage subscriptions.
• Communicate with you about your account, security, and material changes to the Service.
• Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.

3. AI processing

To generate a study, the passage reference and any text you provide are sent to a third-party large language model provider (currently Groq), which processes that input to produce the study. These providers handle the input under their own terms and privacy policies. Please do not paste confidential information or sensitive personal data into the passage or notes fields.

4. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers that help us run the Service, and only as needed to provide it:

• Supabase — database and private file storage.
• Resend — account and study email delivery.
• Groq — generating study content from your input.
• Stripe — payment processing and subscription management.
• Vercel — application hosting and delivery.

Public share links. If you choose to enable a public share link for a study, that study becomes accessible to anyone who has the link until you turn sharing off. Do not enable sharing for content you want to keep private.

Legal reasons. We may disclose information if we believe it is required by law, or reasonably necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of Explain Scripture, our users, or the public.

5. Data retention

We keep your account information and studies for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual studies at any time, which removes them from your account. You may request deletion of your account and its associated data by contacting us. We may retain limited records where necessary for legal, accounting, security, or fraud-prevention purposes.

6. Your choices and rights

You can view, edit, and delete your studies from within the app. To request access to, a copy of, or deletion of your account data, email us at the address below. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the EU/UK GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of your personal information, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

7. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls on our systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 where a higher age applies), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us so we can remove it.

9. International users

Explain Scripture is operated from, and your information may be processed and stored in, the United States and other countries where we or our service providers operate. By using the Service you consent to this processing.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above, and we will provide additional notice for material changes. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
