Terms of Service

Last updated July 4, 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Explain Scripture (the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. What Explain Scripture is

Explain Scripture generates structured study notes, context, and reflection prompts for Bible passages. It is a study aidintended to support your own reading — not a replacement for Scripture itself, prayer, the guidance of a pastor or qualified teacher, or your own theological judgment. Treat every study as a starting point, not a final authority.

2. AI-generated content and accuracy

Studies are produced by automated large language models. Their output may be incomplete, inaccurate, or reflect interpretive choices that differ from your tradition. Always verify what you read against Scripture and trusted sources, and do not rely on the Service for doctrinal, professional, legal, medical, financial, or other important decisions. You are responsible for how you understand and use the output.

3. Scripture text and copyright

The Service does not display copyrighted Bible translation text unless you provide it or it is available from a licensed or public-domain source. If you paste passage text, you represent that you have the right to use it. Many Bible translations are protected by copyright held by their publishers, and your use of such text is subject to the publisher’s terms.

4. Your account

You must provide accurate information, keep your password confidential, and are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. You must be at least 13 years old (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction, if higher) to use the Service. Notify us promptly of any unauthorized use of your account.

5. Plans, billing, and cancellation

  • Explain Scripture offers a free plan and a paid Pro plan. Current prices and plan limits are shown on the pricing page.
  • The Pro plan is a recurring subscription billed through Stripe. It renews automatically for successive billing periods until you cancel.
  • You may cancel at any time through the customer portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and you retain Pro access until then.
  • Except where required by law, fees are non-refundable. We may change prices or plan features with reasonable notice; changes apply to the following billing period.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service in violation of any applicable law or the rights of others.
  • Attempt to bypass usage limits, or scrape, overload, disrupt, or reverse-engineer the Service.
  • Resell, redistribute, or use the output to build or operate a competing service.
  • Upload malicious code or content that is infringing, unlawful, or that you lack the right to submit.
  • Use the Service to harass, harm, or deceive others.

We may throttle, suspend, or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or that threaten the integrity or security of the Service.

7. Intellectual property

We own the Service, including its software, branding, and design. Subject to these Terms, you may use the studies you generate for your personal, ministry, and study purposes. You retain any rights you have in the text you input.

8. Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or to protect the Service or other users. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination — including the disclaimers, limitation of liability, and governing-law sections — will continue to apply.

9. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any study is accurate or complete. Nothing in the Service constitutes spiritual, theological, professional, or other advice.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Explain Scripture and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any decision made or action taken in reliance on the output of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose, or US$50.

11. Changes to the Service and these Terms

We may modify or discontinue features of the Service, and we may update these Terms from time to time. When we update the Terms we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised Terms.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which the Service operator is established, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. You agree that disputes arising from these Terms or the Service will be resolved in the courts located in that jurisdiction, to the extent permitted by applicable law.
